IIED's Climate Change Group (CCG) works with those who have less voice and power in climate decision-making to co-create solutions that shape pathways and drive action for a just and sustainable future. Within this, the Strengthening Partnerships Team works to promote the link between local and global knowledge to create effective action on climate change, ensuring that the voices of vulnerable and excluded groups are included.
We are now looking for a G5 Researcher to join our Strengthening Partnerships Team, within the CCG, working on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role
Working in our Partnerships Team, you will support the delivery of the flagship events in our International Conference on Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change Conference (CBA) Programme.
Specifically, you will co-ordinate the fundraising, development, implementation, and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) of events, including events that build expertise and strengthen professional networks. Crucially, you will utilise these events to build productive relationships and partnerships within the CBA community of practice. Using these relationships, you will develop a strategic directive that integrates the principles of Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) into the CBA programme.
Additionally, you will
- Support senior researchers with the management of work under flagship events
- Write, co-write, publish and disseminate research findings relevant to the CBA Programme
- Assist in developing funding proposals and grant applications
- Support the organisation in running of knowledge forums and platforms
About You
To be considered as a G5 Researcher, you will need:
- Experience in policy advice, climate diplomacy, or research, ideally on climate adaptation or resilience
- Experience working directly with local, grassroots and national level civil society organisations in least developed countries (LDCs)
- Knowledge of institutions, actors and current debates in the field of climate or development, including the Principles for Locally Led Adaptation and Climate Resilient Development
- An understanding of the role and value of local knowledge and experience in addressing climate risks and hazards
- The ability to organise events, including workshops, webinars, dialogues and other discussions
- At a minimum, a master’s degree (or equivalent) plus two years’ work experience, or a relevant graduate degree plus four years’ work experience
Experience working with local or national government actors, development agencies, or foundations engaged in supporting the adaptation of climate vulnerable communities would be beneficial to your application.
Experience carrying out basic qualitative research techniques would be equally advantageous, as would fluency in another relevant international language (e.g. French, Swahili or Amharic), in addition to English.
