IIED is seeking a research consultant to work with us on research into drivers of agricultural expansion in sub-Saharan Africa.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a relevant postgraduate degree and significant relevant professional experience to apply their research expertise and gain further experience. The consultant would require having access to a laptop with MS office and a reliable internet connection.
This role is based in the Natural Resources Group, and relates to IIED’s “Sentinel” project (Social and Environmental Trade-Offs in African Agriculture, www.sentinel-gcrf.org). We are looking for a consultant to conduct qualitative research on drivers of smallholder-led agricultural expansion in sub-Saharan Africa (with a focus on Ghana, Ethiopia and Zambia). This will involve document and policy reviews, carrying out key informant interviews with African stakeholders (remotely/virtually), and working with Sentinel researchers on the analysis and write-up of (largely qualitative) data and information from site-level research. Please download the TOR for more information. Please note, it is not permissible for the consultant to delegate work to other individuals, unless explicitly agreed with IIED.
To express your interest, please upload your CV and complete the evidence criteria questions.
Deadline for applications: 20 April 2021. We expect to shortlist by 23 April and speak with consultants of interest on 27 April. We are looking for someone to start in May.
Commitment and fees: 13-14 months contract for 180-200 working days (depending on availability) over the period May 2021 to May 2022 paid at a rate of £150-£175 per working day, according to qualifications and experience.
